A Message from the Chair |
|
Dear Members,
To celebrate the beginning of the summer season, the new board of directors for the Eastern Ottawa Chamber of Commerce had their first board meeting. Like any growing company, each Board member will have a vital role to play. Aside from the excitement for our upcoming Golf Tournament, we began documenting our timelines for the success of EOCC goals and strategies.
Your Board will further define members' expectations and the plan to fulfill them. For our members, we will bring you the history of our unique community we call Gloucester and the attributes we continue to hold near and dear. We will define the quality of our networking events coupled with the membership participation based on your comments and suggestions.
We have an open door for you. You have an excited, new Board with new ideas to implement. Our community has spunk! We'd like everyone to know.
Enjoy the summer.
Yours in community spirit,
Jacqueline Richards

A Message from David Brault |
Dear Members,
Many of you will know that high school students are now required to complete 40 hours of community involvement activities prior to graduating and receiving their Ontario Secondary School Certificate. Students can now work towards completing their community involvement hours at the Eastern Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.
We have set up a program that will run twice a year for Grade 11 or 12 high school students, starting in late September and late January. During the hours that each student spends at the EOCC, he or she will be required to do a number of things such as:
- research web sites such as the Eastern Ottawa Chamber of Commerce, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce
- develop fact sheets on the web sites they research
- develop a plan to look for part time summer jobs or start their own summer business
- research entrance requirements for business certificates and degrees at Algonquin College, Carleton and University of Ottawa
- work on projects that benefit community groups supported by the Chamber
- work on projects for the Chamber
If you have a daughter, son, grandchild or other family member who you think would benefit from doing community involvement with the Eastern Ottawa Chamber of Commerce, please have them contact me by September 15 for the fall program and January 15 for the winter program.
I hope you are all enjoying your summer. I do look forward to seeing many of you at our golf tournament. The tournament is sold out, but there is still space available for those who want to attend the dinner portion of the event. You can register on the event page of our website. It is looking like it is going to be a great success.
Best regards,
David Brault President,
Eastern Ottawa Chamber of Commerce
