A Message from the Chair

Jacqueline Richards

Dear Members,

In the first week of February the Eastern Ottawa Chamber of Commerce (EOCC) announced that the EOCC and the Orleans Chamber of Commerce (OCC) were exploring the opportunity to merge. The Boards of Directors felt that the two organizations would work together as one group to provide our members with increased services, enhanced networking opportunities, and to be a more significant voice of business in the east end.

During the process both Chambers looked to their members for options and comments in regards to a merger. Ultimately there was a significant enough response from OCC members to their Board indicating a wish to stay focused on the Orleans business community, so that the OCC decided not to continue pursing a merger.

However it was felt by both Chambers that increased networking opportunities between members would be beneficial to their businesses. As a result, the two Chambers have agreed to encourage networking between the two membership groups. We will be promoting the events of both Chambers to our members to allow them the option to attend as many networking events as possible. We will also co-host some events such as lunches and this year's golf tournament.

The EOCC will, as always, continue in its efforts for its members to be the voice of business in our community, to increase networking opportunities, hold events and facilitate the ability of our members to sell their products and services.

I would like to thank all EOCC and OCC members who came out to the information session, or took the time to write or call in regards to this matter. I would also like to thank all those from the EOCC and the OCC who worked on the merger committee. Even though we will not be merging we will be working more closely together, where possible, to the benefit of all our members.

Spring Regards,
Jacqueline Richards
Chair of Board of Directors EOCC
